Looking For More Information on Menstruation?

Are you looking for more information on menstruation? If so, than you have come to the right place. Menstruation is a completely natural process that every woman, regardless of race or culture, will experience throughout her lifetime. As most women know, menstruation is not always a welcome bodily function.

It is, however, completely healthy, natural, and necessary for human reproduction. Whether you are approaching menstruation, wishing to speak to your daughter about it, or just looking for more information on it, this article can help.

Throughout the article we will define what menstruation is and what causes it, as well as what symptoms accompany it. By the end of this article you will have a better understanding of what menstruation is and why it is an essential process that all women must experience.

To begin, let's discuss what menstruation is and why it occurs. As said previously, menstruation is a completely natural process that every woman will encounter.

Menstruation begins when a young girl reaches puberty, usually between the ages of 8 and 15, and lasts until menopause that usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. Beginning at puberty, menstruation is the shedding of the uterine lining. This shedding causes a menstrual blood to flow from the uterus and out through the genitalia.

Typically, a menstrual period will last anywhere from 3-7 days and will occur every month, except during pregnancy, until menopause. Menstruation signals to a woman that she can reproduce and is still within her child bearing years.

What happens during a menstrual cycle? In the first half of the cycle, levels of estrogen begin to rise, helping keep a woman's body healthy. Around day 14 of the menstrual cycle the woman's ovaries will release an egg. This process is called ovulation.

The egg then travels to the woman's uterus, preparing the uterine lining for pregnancy. If the egg is fertilized by a sperm, the woman will become pregnant. If it is not, than it will break apart and the lining of the uterus will be shed causing a menstrual period to occur.

Unfortunately, many women experience symptoms during menstruation. Keep in mind that each woman is different and that some will experience no symptoms, others mild symptoms, and others severe symptoms. One of the most common symptoms of menstruation is abdominal pain, or cramping.

Women may also experience migraines, depression, emotional sensitivity, nausea, and acne. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms to extremes it may be a good idea to speak to your doctor and ensure that what you are experiencing is normal and healthy.

While menstruation is not always a fun time, it is necessary. Without a menstrual cycle, women are unable to give birth. Menstruation occurs every month for a large period of a woman's life. Unfortunately, it can give rise to a variety of symptoms including, headaches, cramping, and acne.

If you have any additional questions about menstruation or feel like your menstrual cycle is abnormal be sure to contact your doctor immediately. If everything is healthy, embrace the process and be proud to be a woman who has the capability of producing another life!
