More Than Just a Bra

For women of the past, a bra may have merely been a means of supporting the upper front portions of her body. But today's woman has more to think about when choosing the right bra. Bras are not only a means of support, but they also add shape and confidence to a woman's body. The right bra can literally transform a woman.

When you look at your silhouette, if you appear saggy and droopy in your bust area, the rest of your body will appear the same way. You will have poor posture and may potentially cause alignment problems later in life. With a properly fitting bra, your breasts should sit mid-way between your shoulders and elbows.

Types and Styles:
Whether you want to enhance or minimize your figure, there's a bra that's just right for you. If you're looking for a little extra lift, try a push-up demi bra, which gives you an uplifted contour. If you wear a variety of tops with different sleeve cuts, adjustable straps will be a necessity. Strapless and backless bras are a great alternative with some dresses. Try a seamless bra under your tight-fitting and thinner shirts. Underwire bras are great for bustier women who need extra support. Minimizer bras can reduce the strain placed on your back and shoulders and often have padded straps. Specialty bra such as sports bras, maternity bras, and nursing bras are also available.

Materials:
Bras come in a wide range of materials from comfy cotton to sexy silk. You can find them in Lycra, spandex and even flannel. Choose a material that's comfortable against your skin.

Sizing:
It's a good idea to be professionally fitted for a bra. Many women wear bras that are far too small, resulting in improper support. You will need to get an accurate measurement of both band and cup size. Check the clasps to make sure that they will stay attached and are adjustable to suit fluctuations in size.
