Plastic Surgery - Is it Do-It-Yourself Therapy?

You looked in the mirror this morning and realized that life had slipped by you and actually left skid marks on your face. What can you do? Obviously the first impulse is to Google search "Plastic Surgeon" in your city.

But when you realize that your medical insurance doesn't cover elective surgery, you stop to reconsider. A face-lift, tummy tuck, or breast lift may be elective surgery to the insurance people, but to you it is an absolute necessity.

If you are unemployed, looking younger and healthier can give you an advantage over the competition at an interview. If your job is secure, you know you will feel more confident with a little nip and tuck here and there. But there is still the matter of the cash a cosmetic surgeon would demand.

There are a few ways to save when logic demands a plastic surgeon. You could opt for non invasive surgical alternatives such as creams, pills or even injections. If surgery is what you seek, many doctors offer payment plans, which allows you to spread the costs over time to decrease the financial impact on you.

No matter your financial circumstances, however, it is important to remember the old adage - because you do indeed get what you pay for. One thing to keep in mind when you are trying to save is how those savings will translate in terms of the kind of care and service you receive.

If you are risking your future health for temporary gains, the money you save could be nothing compared to the costs you pay later to fix it.

So, when you are searching for your plastic surgeon, be sure to find a board certified plastic surgeon who will discuss payment plans with you instead of going with a less accredited doctor, or - gasp - trying to do it yourself!

As fantastical as that sounds, the news is full of stories these days of people - mostly women, sad to say, who have decided that certain plastic surgery procedures can be performed at home without the care of a physician! There is a story of a woman who injected a personal lubricant into her face, resulting in an infected mess that required the plastic surgeon to fix it.

You can find botox online. You can find syringes online. But resist the temptation, there is a reason that plastic surgeons have up to ten years of schooling before they touch your body. It is so that they can do it right the first time. If your budget can't stretch for those special treatments you adore, just wait for a while. Plastic surgery is not a Do It Yourself sport!
