Being overweight or in the plus sized can only become a fashion problem if you do not know what is fashionably good for you. As such, being on this weight, one should gather information on how to be still fashionably appealing.
First thing to consider is the dress cut. Not all cuts will fit any body size. Most cuts, however, are geared towards the medium or the slim sized. But, those of us who are on another size should find solace that there are still available in the market a dress cut just for us. Although the styles may be limited, we know at least it is the best cut for us.
For the colors, we should also be selective in our choices. Some colors may only give us a devastating look instead. Hence, it is advisable that we should be familiar with the colors that are friendly to our size.
For the dress cut, choose the shift, empire and drop-waist dresses. The shift is cut simply, with straight lines, with a short hemline, and is generally sleeveless. However, with the freer fashion concept we have now, sleeves can be incorporated into the design and length can go above or below the knees.
The shift covers body contours and is good in hiding bulges. Choose a soft material for this and feel the freedom of movement you can experience while wearing a shift dress. Another version for the shift is the empire cut.
Simply, a cut is placed below the bust and is shirred slightly to avoid full billowing of the bodice. This will also give full coverage of body contours or bulges. Plus, the cut will give you a younger and lighter-looking image.
One other dress cut for the overweight is the drop-waist dress. It straightens throughout the bodice, then drops down to the waist where you can place a light accent. This type of cut hides also your body contours but has a place for added style to the dress at the waist level.
For colors, the basic rule is to go monochromatic. The best colors for the overweight would be the neutral or dark muted colors like wine, cocoa, forest green, deep blue, grey and silver, russet, taupe, gold, and golden brown.
With these colors, you can always look fashionably appealing. With the right dress cut and colors, you can be as fabulous as the rest of the women. It is in knowing what is right for you that will do the trick.
