The Perfect Dress Gets a Makeover

It's tough finding the perfect fitting dress, especially in a size 14. While more designers are starting to realize the benefits of increasing their dress size base, most quite frequently cater to the size 2-8 dresses.

That means when you find that "perfect" dress, you'll want to wear it over and over. However, if it's too conspicuous, a dress will stand out too much to wear more than once every couple of weeks. There are a few ways to change up your dresses.

If you have a small waist, there is nothing more perfect than adding a large belt to a dress. A large belt can break a dress up into two pieces and create a stunning new look. A sash works equally well (and is infinitely cheaper) as a belt.

Be careful as a too wide belt can make you appear chunkier. Always try the belt on before buying. Or, if you're buying online, try different belts on at local stores. Remember that even though you might find a deal online, there is still shipping to consider.

Belts aren't the only way to spice up a dress. If you have a dress with a pencil skirt, you can add a small chiffon overlay to the bottom of the dress, or even a polyester type overlay.

A spaghetti strapped dress can have the straps tucked in and a wide ribbon attached around the top of the dress in a bright color. You can do the same with the hem. Attach both using a fabric adhesive from your local craft or fabric store.

Small jackets and blazers can add a completely different look to a dress. Pencil skirt or flare skirt dresses can look fantastic with blazers or bolero jackets, but a full skirt will look strange matched with a blazer.

For button up dresses, wear a camisole underneath and open up the top buttons.

If a dress is tighter on top, you can often put a sweater over it, or a button down sweater can be buttoned to only show a small bit of the top of the dress.

The perfect size 14 dress is made more perfect by being able to wear it many times. Unlike a favorite pair of pants, a dress is more memorable. Being able to wear it more often can save a lot of money. Having a dress that makes you feel amazing when worn, is priceless.
