Mall shopping is one of those necessary evils. I have found that shoppers fall into two categories: men and women. Men view shopping as a necessary evil. They know what they want, go in a store, get it and leave-job done.
Women on the other hand, turn shopping into an art form. In the same 30 minutes it might take a man to do his shopping a woman can take hours. And I don't mean that in a derogatory way. It's just the way things are.
But it leads to a point and the point is that when women go shopping they are usually distracted by all manner of things: kids, friends that they are shopping with and the shopping experience itself.
That makes them easy prey for lowlife predators. They salivate when they see a woman coming out of a store pushing a cart, carrying a child and talking on a cell phone. They consider that easy pickings.
Here are some common sense safety tips to keep you safe for shopping safety when you're mall shopping.
1. Try shopping during the day and avoid night shopping if possible.
2. Where possible go with a friend. There is strength in numbers.
3. Park as close as you can to your store.
4. Choose areas that are well lit.
5. Focus on the task at hand and try and stay off of your cell phone.
6. Keep your purse underneath your arm.
7. Have your car keys out and ready. Remember, you can use those as a weapon too.
8. Don't be afraid to ask for an escort out to your car.
9. Avoid talking to strangers especially on your way out to the car.
10. Listen to that inner voice. It's better to be a little bit on the super cautious side than a victim of an assault.
11. Above all use common sense.
12. Carry some self defense products like pepper spray, stun gun or personal alarm.
Follow these shopping safety tips and you will be much safer and possibly help with assault prevention.
